On Thursday, February 11th, Judge Kent Jasperson dismissed animal neglect charges against FLOCK (For the Love of Cats and Kittens) before the trial even started.
You can read the report from eyewitness Cathy Scott on the Best Friends Animal Society website: “Disappointing Day in Court”
Mr. Bettinger was hoping for a continuance as there is so much evidence yet to go through and more is coming in daily since the word has spread about the trial. Yesterday the judge denied the request saying the opposing attorney would have none of it.
We are hoping that Mr. Bettinger and his investigator Sharon Wehrly have managed to compile a solid case based on what they have compiled. The trial is set for 9 am tomorrow morning (Thursday, 02/11/10).
If you are interested in this case, I would appreciate hearing your experience, thoughts and feelings about the case in the comments section.

Best Friends caring for nearly 800 cats
Over two years ago, Animal Control in Nye County, Nevada, took control of some 800 cats in what has been described as a rescue effort that turned into an extreme case of animal hoarding. FLOCK (For the Love of Cats and Kittens), a registered 501c3 non-profit corporation, had kept the cats in deplorable conditions in their facility in Pahrump, Nevada.

We received an e-mail from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary CEO and Founder Gregory Castle in response to our inquiry about what Best Friends was doing to help build the case against FLOCK. We were concerned because the Nye County DA’s investigator had told us that she was getting no response from anyone at Best Friends. Gregory has asked us to share his e-mail with everyone and so here it is: (more…)
The world’s largest single kitty rescue ever attempted, over 800 cats saved from near death in the Nevada desert. Best Friends Animal Society moved in to save starving, abused and near feral cats from an abusive situation outside Vegas.
The cats of the Great Kitty Rescue have touched many lives and changed them in subtle and not so subtle ways.
I believe that these cats are "angel cats" who through their resilience in light of such a horrific ordeal have taught we humans many lessons of unconditional love, compassion, patience and more.
